Q. What is a Dual Credit Course?
A. A Dual Credit Course is a course offered through a Community College which, when successfully completed, provides the student with a credit towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma and a College credit.
   
Q. What is the purpose of Dual Credit Courses?
A. Dual Credit Courses are designed to assist students to complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma and/or who wish to try out an apprenticeship program or College once they complete high school.
   
Q. What does it cost?
A. There are no costs for secondary school students attending a Dual Credit Course. Books and transportation are provided free of charge to all students attending regularly.
   
Q. Can anyone sign up for a Dual Credit Course?
A. Dual Credit courses are not part of the regular secondary school curriculum, Your local Guidance counsellor can tell you what is available, what the requirements are, and can assist you to apply.
   
Q. I like cars. Are there any Dual Credit Courses related to the auto industry?
A. Go to our Courses tab, enter any key word which describes what you are interested in, such as ‘auto’ or ‘ hairdressing’ and a list of Dual Credit courses related to that course will be displayed, along with their locations.
   
Q. If I find something I like, how can I apply?
A. Contact the Guidance counsellor in your local school. Even if you are not currently enrolled, Guidance staff at your local school will assist you to reconnect with your educational goals.
   
Q. What is the School-College-Work Initiative? (SCWI)
A. First implemented in 1997, the School-College-Work Initiative (SCWI) funds projects and forums that support student success in secondary education and assist students in their transition from secondary school to college programs.

The SCWI is co-funded by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities and co-managed under the leadership of the Council of Ontario Directors of Education (CODE) and the Committee of (College) Presidents.

Since its introduction in 2005 the Dual Credit Program (Dual Credit Courses) has been the largest project under the SCWI umbrella. Over 50,000 students in Ontario have joined this initiative.

The gotocollege.ca web site is a project of the School-College-Work Initiative (SCWI). SCWI is a co-operative effort with a mandate to assist in creating a seamless transition for students from secondary school to college. In addition to a wide array of learning and awareness opportunities for students, teachers, parents and the broader community, projects have been developed to provide Dual Credit programs for secondary students through the partnership of secondary schools and colleges.

A collaboration of the Council of Ontario Directors of Education (CODE) and the Committee of College Presidents (COP), SCWI is jointly funded by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
